POPULARIZATION OF DESIGN IN UKRAINE

Design and Ukraine - is this combination rightful? Who are those people, the authors of outstanding ideas, thanks to creative efforts of which the surrounding world becomes a better place? Are their creative works in demand in Ukraine, does the aesthetic aspect of reality interest people and how much? What is the level of design mastery in Ukraine? What can we be proud of and what do the domestic designers lack? What can we only dream of today and what is need to make these dreams come true?

The organizers of the project “WANTED DESIGN WEEK” - the magazine “SALON” along with agency “IKON Luxury Marketing" – will not only help to find answers to these questions, but will also demonstrate to everyone interested the samples of topical world design.

For 10 years, the magazine “SALON” has been the leader of the market of specialized publications in the field of interior decoration and it keeps to its motto ‘All the best in design’.

“IKON Luxury Marketing” is a specialized agency, the first one in Ukraine, which offers marketing services to national and foreign companies of LUXE segment.

‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK’ is a bundle of steps, united by one conception and directed at identification, encouragement and distribution of positive design initiatives in our country. For four years, the project was made by the magazine “SALON” alone, but this year it switches into a qualitatively new level. In 2009 the agency “IKON Luxury Marketing” became the partner pf the project. Every year, the project ‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK’ embraces more and more issues in the sphere of interior design, urban architecture, fashion and aspects of modern culture, art and technologies.
‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK-2009’ will gather under one roof the offsprings of creative efforts of famous designers and architects. It is important to point out that apart from European headliners of Design Week, the young Ukrainian designers who are to make the radiant future of design in Ukraine will also present their works.
The project ‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK’ was developed, taking into the account the peculiarities of the Ukrainian market of architecture, design, visual arts, that is why it presents the best, at the moment, opportunities to unlock the creative potential of the participants.

Among participants of ‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK’ are Luzinterruptus (design bureau, Spain), Visionnaire (furniture, Italy), Poliform (SFERA DESIGN salon), Electrolux, ArtZone (design project, Odessa) and other outstanding representatives of this sphere.

"Mistets'kiy Arsenal" was selected as the venue for ‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK’. It is a landmark location, which is ideal for such an event both in terms of its position, scale and the peculiarity of the venue itself. "Mistets'kiy Arsenal" is a unique territory in the historical centre of Kyiv, which will soon become the cultural and artistic citadel of Kyiv, it is the area where evident is the harmony of the past and the present, which generates new creative projects. "Mistets'kiy Arsenal" is an idea that arose at the threshold of the millennia with the purpose to position Ukraine as a country with a powerful cultural capital.
Apart from works themselves and presentations of their authors, "Mistets'kiy Arsenal" will also house, within ‘WANTED DESIGN WEEK’, master classes of representatives of established design bureaus and agencies.
